Indiana Suspends Medicaid Work Requirement

Indiana’s Medicaid program has suspended work requirements that several other states, including Kentucky, are trying to implement.
The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration made the announcement Thursday. It cited a pending legal challenge in federal court.
Last month several Indiana Medicaid enrollees filed a lawsuit against the federal government for approving the work requirements. Enrollees were required to work, volunteer or take educational course for 20 hours a week or possibly lose coverage. Critics of the requirements say work isn’t part of the law that created Medicaid, which is supposed to provide health coverage.
Indiana says it’s suspending enforcement while the lawsuit moves through court.
Kentucky’s Medicaid work requirements have also been tied up in courts for several years.
