There’s been a consistent uptick in coronavirus cases in Fayette County the last few weeks. Fayette County Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall said three weeks ago the rolling seven-day average was 30 cases per day. Earlier this week that figure was 115 and then 140 on Wednesday.
“Too many people are acting like COVID is completely over, but COVID has not forgotten about this. It knows it’s still here. It is spreading. We need people to get vaccinated. We need people to finish the booster series,” said Hall.
Hall said check with your medical provider on booster use and timing. He noted it’s not a one size fits all. The county health representative says large outdoor events, like the Kentucky Derby, can still provide an environment for spreading the disease. While the increase in cases has been steady, Hall said it’s well shy of the 900 to a thousand cases a day in early 2022. The health department representative added many parents are looking forward to vaccination approval for those six months and older. That could come this summer or fall.
