Central and eastern Kentucky is preparing for another round of winter weather this weekend. Precipitation is expected throughout most of Sunday evening and into Monday morning. Lexington mayor Linda Gorton held a press conference Sunday afternoon with other city officials to address the incoming weather. One of those officials was Tim Brandiwie. He is the emergency operations manager for the division of Emergency Management. Slick roads are not the only concern.
“We encourage people to keep their batteries charged, have a little kit on standby, some food, water, radio, but keep your phones charged. Again, not expected a significant snow event but there could be isolated power outages due to the type of snow that’s going to fall.” Brandiwie said.
Officials are also encouraging people to stay off the roads. Mayor Gorton is asking community members to help one another during this weather event.
“As always please help your neighbors, check in with them, especially if you have elderly neighbors and pets to protect them from the cold.”
Lexington police are urging people, if they must travel, to give themselves plenty of time to reach their destinations and to keep plenty of space between themselves and other motorists.
