Mandatory COVID-19 testing now applies to faculty, students and staff at the University of Kentucky who are unvaccinated. Though students were already required to get tested.

Currently, UK is reporting 123 active COVID-19 cases among students. University spokesman Jay Blanton said testing is one way to encourage people to get inoculated.

“We are working on both an employee incentive plan, we already have a student incentive plan, lots of prizes and enticements to test," Blanton said. "We're adding an employee incentive plan now that's going to include some things like extra vacation time, maybe extra pay, athletic event tickets, those kinds of things.”

Blanton said 75% of campus has been vaccinated. However the university doesn’t know how many people are unvaccinated. Blanton estimates several thousand people have not received the vaccine.
