The Lexington Public Library system is seeing a significant reduction in workforce, due to coronavirus related patron limitations.  State requirements call for a 33% cap on capacity.

Library Director Heather Dieffenbach says 101 part time employees at many branches are being laid off.  She said it’s effective July 18th.

“It was a very difficult decision, but being a tax supported entity, would could not continue to justify paying our staff when we didn’t have work for them.  So, it was a devastating decision for all of us,” explained Dieffenbach

Dieffenbach says she has worked alongside these employees and hopes to have them back one day.  The Northside Branch of the library system is scheduled to open July 20th with curbside service at all other Lexington Public Library branches.
