Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton will deliver her first fiscal year budget recommendations Tuesday. It comes at a time when tax revenue is down.
Because of those financial constraints, Gorton says her spending suggestions are contained in a “lean budget.” The first term mayor previously ordered cuts totaling about $2 million for this current fiscal year. Then Gorton says city departments and outside agencies were asked to reduce their budget requests by 15% for the new budget. “We’re doing this in a way that, for the most part, our citizens will not notice a difference. We’re being very responsible with our money,” said Gorton.
After getting her recommendations, Lexington council members will begin the work to review them and then act on the budget in June.
