The ground was broken Monday for an affordable housing complex for seniors in west Lexington.  It’s a continuation of a local government effort to bolster housing with the help of a designated fund.

When finished, Meadowthorpe Landing on Antique Drive will feature 71 units.  Lexington Mayor Jim Gray expressed appreciation during the groundbreaking ceremony to private investors, assistance from the Kentucky Housing Corporation and the city’s affordable housing trust fund.

The Lexington Affordable Housing Program was created four years ago to help provide affordable housing for households at or below 80 percent of area median income.  Since 2012, the city has invested more than $12 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund with $112 million coming from private developers.

City officials say more than 1,400 housing units have been created or preserved.
