Lexington council members today are expected to review consultant suggestions for a new City Hall just a block away from the current urban county government center.

CGL consulting’s priority suggestion calls for building a new stand- alone city hall on what’s now Phoenix Park.  Project Manager Jenifer Wuorenmaa says the next step would be a detailed planning study.

“Looking division by division, department by department, to see what we really need.  Can we drop that square footage down even more?  This is really the initial blush of what could be for the future,” said Wuorenmaa.

Two other options were considered by consultants.  One would have the city buy the central library building and house city hall offices there and in a new expansion.

A third option would involve tearing down the current police station, county clerk’s office, and parking garage to construct a new city hall on that site.  Wuorenmaa says those two options carry a higher price tag.
