A new health clinic treating eating disorders is open in central Kentucky. Rediscover: Eating Disorder Recovery opened late last year and already has nearly 50 clients in central and eastern Kentucky.
Hannah Whitaker is the founder of Rediscover in Madison County. Whitaker said it became her mission to open the clinic after her own struggle with anorexia.
“Me just recovering only helps me, it doesn’t help anybody else and it’s such a common thing. So, I think after speaking at schools, I just realized that so many people deal with it, but there was no treatment here. So it instantly became my goal to have a clinical team that could actually treat it,” said Whitaker.
The team at Rediscover consists of therapists, dietitians, and physicians.
Whitaker said their location in Richmond allows them to provide treatment more to a wide base, but telehealth is also a benefit.
“We have several clients from far eastern Kentucky. So, even if they can get here, maybe for that initial assessment and then their therapy and stuff be telehealth, that’s definitely an option that we’ve done,” said Whitaker.
The clinic treats a variety of eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and restrictive eating.
