Today's Interview: Poet Tina Parker Talks About Her Latest Book, "Lock Her Up"

In today’s interview, WEKU Arts Reporter Cheri Lawson talks with Appalachian Poet Tina Parker about her new book titled Lock Her Up.

Parker grew up in Bristol, Virginia. She moved to Kentucky about 20 years ago and lives in Berea with her husband and two daughters. 

She has authored other poetry books including Mother May I and Another Offering

Tina Parker gives the reader a glimpse into her book "Lock Her Up" with these words: "Not that long ago in our history, women were labeled as "other' and committed to asylums to cure them of perceived difference and to keep them silent."

Parker said she will have virtual events as part of two Kentucky literary series. On April 8th, InKY reading series.May 10th, Flying Out Loud reading series, as well as an online poetry workshop with InKY on April 17th.

Cheri is a broadcast producer, anchor, reporter, announcer and talk show host with over 25 years of experience. For three years, she was the local host of Morning Edition on WMUB-FM at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Cheri produced and hosted local talk shows and news stories for the station for nine years. Prior to that, she produced and co-hosted a local talk show on WVXU, Cincinnati for nearly 15 years. Cheri has won numerous awards from the Public Radio News Directors Association, the Ohio and Kentucky Associated Press, and both the Cincinnati and Ohio chapters of the Society for Professional Journalists.
