With temperatures expected to warm into the 70’s this week, springtime gardeners will be enjoying the outdoors. A central Kentucky horticulturalist says gardening could also be another way to cope with coronavirus related stress.

If you don’t want to tackle a big garden project, Madison County Extension Office Horticulture Agent Amanda Sears said a container garden might be the best option.  Sears said there can be therapy found in working the land. “There’s studies that have shown not just the sunlight that we all think of makes us feel better, but actually contact with the soil that can also have a healing effect,” said Sears.

Sears said sometimes she has to turn off all the information on coronavirus for a while, go outside, and reset.  The extension agent added some agriculture businesses remain open, but another option for obtaining seeds is to order online.
