Officials with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services said Wednesday that a nurse strike team will be lending assistance in North Carolina. The focus of the trip is to provide help to Hurricane Dorian victims.
The registered nurses and administrative staff members will be working in local shelters. The nurse strike team will augment staff to provide medical support to people who are displaced from their homes.
These will be individuals residing in general or medical needs shelters. Typically, these people are in relatively stable condition but have a chronic disease or condition like diabetes.
These types of medical help requests are coordinated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact. It’s a mutual aid agreement between states and territories in the United States.
