Officials at the Blue Grass Army Depot are reminding residents Drones have no place flying over federal property. The air space over the military installation is a Federal Aviation Administration designated no-drone zone.
Depot Spokesman Mark Henry said there’s not been a particular incident. He said a reminder comes about every six months. “It’s just one of those things now that we’re into actually demilling the chemical weapons and actually moving the chemical weapons from one storage location over to the plant, there’s more exposure of them and so forth. So, we’re just being a little more cautious about everything,” said Henry.
Although it’s never happened, Henry noted security members are authorized to damage, destroy, seize, or disable any unauthorized unmanned aircraft. Violators could be subject to enforcement action such as fines or a criminal charge.
