Work begins this week to replace the main sewer line which runs along Manchester Street. Water Quality Director Charlie Martin said it appears the current sewer line was put into the ground in the 1930’s.
“Old clay pipe. It is partially collapsed in at least two different locations. And with all the stuff going on in that part of town on Manchester Street and the Distillery District, it’s time to replace it,” said Martin.
Martin added Manchester Street will be shut down to through traffic, but access to businesses or residential areas will still be open. He said motorists can still drive around the no-through traffic sign off Oliver Lewis Way to make their way down a part of Manchester. And Martin said Forbes Road can be used to access the Distillery District. The entire project is anticipated to take about six months to complete.
