Lexington city leaders are expected to pass sanitary sewer fee increases in the next few weeks to support continued work to revamp the city’s sewer system. Council votes are anticipated to raise the fee by 5% this July and the same amount next July.
Division of Water Quality Director Charlie Martin said much of the work from now on will focus on pipeline improvements.
“We always thought it was going to cost a lot," he said. "Taking out pavement, replacing pavement, replacing pipes, those kinds of things, are all very expensive. It’s a very different world than we lived in ten years ago,” said Martin.
Monthly bills for the average user would increase a $3.00 over the next two years. Martin said one of the more high-profile projects near Euclid Avenue is expected to start late this summer.?
