More than a month after floods swept through eastern Kentucky, schools are still struggling to recover. Education Commissioner Jason Glass as well as officials from FEMA, Kentucky Emergency Management and the federal government visited schools in Letcher and Knott Counties on Tuesday.
They’re visiting Perry and Breathitt County schools today. Officials will meet with superintendents, school staff, students and families to discuss short and long term needs, and how the Kentucky Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education can help.
FEMA has determined that 18 counties are eligible for Public Assistance due to the flooding in July. The Kentucky Department of Education said there are 25 public school districts in those 18 counties.
