U.S. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona has announced the 58th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars. The list of 161 high school seniors includes two from the same Kentucky city.

The Kentucky scholars are McKenna Sun of Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Grayson Kemplin of Henry Clay in Lexington. Students from across the country are recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars also considers essays, school evaluations and transcripts, and a commitment to community service and leadership in making its selections. Of the 3.7 million students expected to graduate from high school, more than 5000 candidates qualified for the 2022 awards.

Sun and Kemplin along with the other 159 students will be recognized this summer with an online program.
