A Berea College administrator has offered testimony about the cost of college education to a congressional committee in Washington.  Much of the questioning Tuesday focused on student debt.

Berea College is known nationally for its "no student paid" tuition with a "student work required" philosophy.

Vice President for Finance Jeff Amburgey told members of the House Ways and Means subcommittee the school has eight guiding principles to help control costs., “Number 7 includes the language ‘plain living.’  So, we do not have high paid coaches.  As a matter of fact, we are struggling to pay some of the coaches.  Many of our sports are free to come to."

Amburgey says about three-quarters of operational costs are paid for through the southern Madison County school’s $1 billion endowment.
