Centre College Launches First Generation Student Scholarship Program

ctcl.org

Centre College is looking for 40 first generation students to participate in a new scholarship program.  Ten Grissom Scholars are expected to be enrolled in next fall's classes and 10 more each year through 20-18.

Centre President John Roush believes the new program offers the chance to greatly impact lives.  "So if we can bring and continue to be a place that brings in this kind of man or woman for the kind of experience we can provide him or her at Centre, it will transform their live and put them, if you will, in a completely different trajectory that what they were four years before we got them," said Roush.

Dean of Admission Bob Nesmith says it's a national program, but not to the exclusion of Kentucky students. "We won't be doing our job very well if we don't have great candidates from all parts of the state and my own particular hope is that this communicates to first generation students in rural parts of our state that this is a place for them," said Nesmith.

The Grissom Scholarship is endowed through a gift by Marlene and David Grissom.  It's the largest single contribution in Centre College history.?
