On Wednesday, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said  a Lexington police officer shot a suspect wanted for murder. The person was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. Weathers said the police department was assisting US Marshals to make contact with the suspect.

“The suspect has been served with warrants for murder and a felon in possession of a firearm,” Weathers said. “In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officer had a body-worn camera activated. The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police.”

The Kentucky State police will take over the investigation and declined to comment. Chief Weathers said it will be up to the Kentucky State Police and the state commonwealth attorney to release the body camera footage. The officer has been placed on administrative, paid leave.
