Just over a week ago Lexington public health officials reported 451 coronavirus cases, a one day record high. Friday’s report revealed 155 new COVID-19 cases in Fayette County.
Health Department Spokesman Kevin Hall said the much lower daily number isn’t to suggest it’s time to relax preventive measures. “There’s the risk of people putting their guard down, particularly with all the news coming about the vaccine making its way into the different parts of Kentucky. However, it is still a long way away from wide availability to everyone,” said Hall.
Hall noted the 155 cases reported through the end of the day Thursday may be much lower than the record high reported on December ninth, but that’s still two to three times higher than coronavirus counts in October. And the public health official said hospitalizations continue to rise as well.? Hall said mask wearing, social distancing, washing hands, and staying home when sick remain very important.
