A long-standing central Kentucky racehorse training facility is getting some upgrades.  The Thoroughbred Center off Paris Pike is home to 900 to 1000 horses.

Keeneland plans to build six new barns and make other enhancements at the 245-acre year-round training facility.  Two existing concrete barns are to be demolished and replaced with six state-of-the-art barns.

Work on the project is expected to begin in May, pending approval from local planning and zoning authorities.  Keeneland will work with trainers stabled at the center to find alternate locations for horses during construction.

Originally opened in 1969, Keeneland has owned The Thoroughbred Center since April of 2000.  The facility features two dirt tracks, five and seven and a half furlongs. The Thoroughbred Center is within a six-hour drive of ten racetracks.
