A $10 million federal transportation grant is expected to enhance safety along a road between Paris and Georgetown while boosting industrial development.

The money will go toward reconstruction of U.S. 460.  In addition to benefiting the Toyota automotive plant in Scott County, Bourbon County Judge Executive Mike Williams said the highway reconstruction will help other businesses transport goods more efficiently.

“Today to safely do that they need to go on U.S. 68 to Lexington, but this will save time and money for a lot of businesses, so we fully expect our industrial park to fill up pretty quickly.  And obviously that’s a good problem to have,” noted Williams.

Williams added there’s fewer than 50 acres remaining at the industrial park that has been in place for 20 years.  The county judge said work on the 15 mile stretch of highway is scheduled to begin next fall with a completion date set for 2024.
