A Lexington business employing hundreds of people will close by the end of next year.

The Lexington Herald-Leader is reporting that 600 hours employees will lose their jobs with the manufacturer of heating and cooling units.

Ingersoll Rand, Trane’s parent company said in a release Thursday afternoon that it is consolidating operations at its 1 million square-foot plant in Columbia, South Carolina.

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray confirmed the news and issued a statement  saying the city is already working to connect employees with other local companies.

Gray’s statement also said, quote, “A plant closing is never good news but thankfully Lexington’s robust economy and low unemployment will help Trane’s employees as they seek new jobs.”
