The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees approved Tuesday a land/street swap with Lexington Urban County Government.  Only one step remains to make the deal final.

In the much-publicized deal UK gives the city 250 acres suitable for industrial development off Newtown Pike near I-75.  In exchange, the university takes control of several streets in and around campus.  UK Vice President for Finance and Administration Eric Monday says the deal provides economic benefits and improves safety. “More jobs, more opportunities for our graduates, for our students as well as capturing 13 to 14 acres of streets within our campus,” said Monday.

Monday says the university is not interested in street closures or building projects at this time.  The matter is expected to go before the Urban County Council in January.
