Kentucky’s farm economy is experiencing about 3.5 percent growth this year compared to 2016. University of Kentucky Agriculture Economist Will Snell terms it as “some stability.”
Snell offered up his annual report Thursday to the 97th Kentucky Farm Bureau Convention in Louisville. The veteran ag observer says farm-to-table production is part of today’s formula for some producers. “This isn’t a phenomenon unique to Kentucky. It’s nationally and I don’t see anything on the horizon that’s going to cause that to slow down. Again, it’s a situation, it may not be for everybody out there,” said Snell.
The growth seen in Kentucky agriculture, according to Snell, can be partly attributed to stronger livestock markets and record yields for certain crops.
He also says the export business nationally saw about an 8 to 10 percent increase.
