Kentucky’s unemployment rate for April fell to 3.9% Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear announced on Thursday. He said it’s the lowest unemployment rate the commonwealth has seen in 45 years — when the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics began keeping track.

Beshear said a record number of investment and jobs announcements have helped the economy get back on track. But, he also said everyone should benefit.

“But in a historic moment you have to get it right, which means that prosperity has to reach parts of Kentucky that are often left out,” he said. “That’s parts of eastern and western and also each and everyone of our neighborhoods in larger cities.”

Beshear said he anticipates that more jobs announcements will be made in the Ashland and eastern Kentucky area soon.

Kentucky’s unemployment rate is slightly higher than the national average.
