The former Letcher County sheriff accused of murdering District Judge Kevin Mullins is scheduled to be back in court August 15.

Mickey Stines’ attorneys have filed a motion asking the judge to unseal their client’s psychiatric evaluation conducted at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center. They wrote that the contents are directly relevant to issues expected to be raised at next week’s hearing.

The attorneys plan to ask for his charges to be dismissed and, if that fails, discuss his bond. They’re pursuing an insanity defense for Stines, who’s accused of shooting Mullins to death last September in the judge’s office. Stines is being held in the Leslie County Detention Center without bond.
