The Kentucky General Assembly's next regular session begins in January. The Republicans hold a supermajority in both chambers, meaning they can appoint who chairs the various committees. Legislators from central and eastern Kentucky will hold several of these positions.

The Banking & Insurance Committee will be chaired by Senator Jared Carpenter of Berea, and the Vice Chair will be Senator Rick Girdler, of Somerset.

Senator Phillip Wheeler, of Pikeville will chair the Economic Development, Tourism, and Labor Committee.

Senator Steve West of Paris will chair the Education committee.

The Judiciary committee will be chaired by Senator Brandon J. Storm, of London, and Vice Chaired Senator Phillip Wheeler of Pikeville.

Senator Brandon Smith of Hazard will chair the Natural Resources and Energy committee.

And Senator Max Wise, of Campbellsville, was elected as the next majority floor leader and Senator Robert Stivers, of Manchester, was re-elected as Senate President.
