Kentucky is joining Ohio and North Carolina as part of a group looking into how to implement electric infrastructure at Appalachian airports.

The research comes as a project based out of Ohio University. The southeast-Ohio school is getting a $500,000 grant, working with other researchers out of North Carolina State.

Half of the 36 airports that are part of the project are based in the Commonwealth.

The project will help the researchers figure out what infrastructure is needed at the airports. That includes figuring out how to finance and implement charging stations and other utilities.

The project is expected to take one year.
