Crews installing solar panels

They city of Lexington is extending the deadline for the Solarize Lexington program. The program helps residents install solar panels on their homes.

Participants must submit an interest form by Monday, September second to participate in the program this year. Some grant funds are still available for low to moderate-income homeowners.

Eligible residents must own and occupy their single-family home. The program helps residents go through the process of getting solar panels and it provides a discount up to 15%.

Homeowners, non-profits, small businesses and places of worship in Fayette County are able to apply for the program.

City officials warn that scammers have contacted people by phone, online and door-to-door. They say no one from Solarize Lexington will contact people unless the applicant reaches out first.

Lexington’s only Solarize partners are the Kentucky Solar Energy Society and Solar Energy Solutions.
