As eastern Kentucky remembers the second anniversary of the deadly floods that struck the region, Governor Andy Beshear visited the area. He touted the progress of high ground communities.
Governor Beshear and other members of his administration visited Floyd, Knott, and Perry Counties on Friday. He checked in on the progress of high ground communities established to help flood survivors. He announced funding and a new housing project in Breathitt County.
The governor also stopped in Hindman for a memorial service for the victims of the floods in Knott County. There was also a ribbon cutting for a new access road and announcement of FAHE intake for prospective homeowners.
Governor Beshear announced the state has purchased more than 100 acres for the Chestnut Ridge high-ground community in Knott County. Since the floods, the governor has announced seven high-ground communities in four counties that will bring over 500 new homes to the area.
