It's road construction season, officials are wary about the cost of asphalt

transportation.ky.gov

The road construction season is moving into a peak period over the next few months. While some road work can be carried out during wintertime, State Transportation Department District Spokesperson Natasha Lacy said most of the repaving maintenance occurs in the warm months. Lacy said asphalt prices are a byproduct of oil refinement. She noted the cost could go up.

“It could possibly elevate as the months proceed. At this time though we’re prepared for any type of increase in cost, cause we factor different things into the adjustments for projects and maintenance work,” said Lacy.

Lacy said the volume of traffic on interstates has been increasing. She noted one of the repaving projects is found in Madison County. Intermittent lane closures will take place on both north and southbound lanes between the Duncannon and Barnes Mill exits through June fifth. Lacy added GoKy and Waze apps can help with navigation through construction areas.
