Confidence appears to be growing the governor’s office when it comes to legalizing medical marijuana. During his Team Kentucky briefing on Thursday, Governor Beshear said he feels there will be room to take some executive action on the issue. He said his team is working to make sure they go about the process the right way.

“Whatever steps we’re able to take, we want them to be clear. We want it to serve a purpose, it is not a back-end way to allow recreational marijuana and so we want to make sure that we do it right.”

Beshear said this is something the people of Kentucky want.

“There is so much interest. It is time for, call it medical cannabis or medical marijuana in Kentucky. It is the will of the people, there are folks out there suffering.”

Beshear, who is a Democrat, first mentioned the idea of taking executive action on last month. The most recent bill to legalize medical cannabis died in the GOP-led Senate this past session.
