Kentucky officials: Covid will have little impact on big events this weekend.

Gov. Andy Beshear youtube

Kentucky officials are optimistic about the Covid numbers as we head into Derby weekend and Mothers’ Day. The number of being getting vaccinated is down but people are still getting the shots. During his Team Kentucky briefing this week, Governor Beshear said Kentuckians have sacrificed a lot and now its ok to relax a little this weekend.

“Where we are in COVID, while it hasn’t gone away, its ok to celebrate. With everything we have given up for a period of time, I want people to enjoy, have a good time and I’m looking forward to feeling that energy and to watching everybody else be able to have a good time.”

The governor said while the positivity rate is increasing, it is no cause for alarm because other numbers are looking better.

“Fewer people in the hospital, though any given day, might go up or down a little bit, then they were in what was then the safest time during the pandemic. ICU, being the same, listen we are rapidly, rapidly approaching, what I hope, is the day where we will see nobody in the ICU.”

Beshear said while the vaccination numbers are down, people are still choosing to get vaccinated. Kentucky’s positivity rate has risen to 5.67 percent. All but four counties in the Commonwealth are listed at a low community level.
