Kentucky’s crops are moving up, vertically. The group 80 Acres Farms is moving into Boone County where they will be installing a vertical farming facility. Jed Portman is the communication manager for 80 Acres Farms. He said their new facility in Kentucky is a big move for the organization.

“We’re excited to be crossing the river into Kentucky, building our first major production farm outside of Ohio. Our Boone County facility will be our largest and most sophisticated yet, more than doubling our total output,” Portman said.

He also said the new facility will benefit Kentuckians in more ways than one.

“Our 74-million-dollar investment will bring fresh, healthy, nutritious produce and more than 125 jobs, long term, to Kentucky. It will allow us to grow closer to our existing retail stores in and around Lexington and Louisville and to reach new audiences in Kentucky and beyond.”

The facility will include a high-tech indoor vertical farm with harvesting, packaging, and distribution capabilities for leafy green, microgreens, berries, and tomatoes. It is expected to begin operations later this year.
