Iconic Northern Kentucky Bridge Subject of Photography Contest

Nancy Wood
/
Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee Member

The iconic blue Roebling Bridge linking Covington with Cincinnati is again the subject of a photo contest this month.  Photographers have until the end of August to submit pics in three categories.

New this year are the three categories for photo contest participants; aerial photos, creative/artistic photos, and traditional shots.  Completed in 1866, engineer John Roebling went on to design a similar  suspension crossing in New York, the Brooklyn Bridge.  Covington-Cincinnati Suspension Bridge Committee Member Nancy Wood says there are no plans to shut down the Roebling Bridge to foot or vehicle traffic. “It’s still a part of the system up here, the roadway system.  Folks use it and really count on it and more importantly people just really appreciate the beauty of this bridge,” said Wood.

Wood says there is a weight restriction in place to prevent trucks from crossing.  She says about 100 photos were submitted in last year’s contest.
