Kentucky has closed on a bond issue that's a key part of financing for a new Ohio River bridge that will connect Louisville and Jeffersonville, Ind. State transportation officials say it will provide $761 million for the downtown project.
Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock says the completion of financing is a significant milestone for the project. Kentucky officials are handling construction of the downtown bridge. Indiana is overseeing construction of a second bridge going up east of Louisville, linking Utica. Ind., and Prospect, Ky. It's called the East End Bridge. The $2.6 billion project is one of the nation's largest public works endeavors.
