Lexington’s public transit system is renovating its downtown center starting next month.
LexTran will be renovating the interior of the center for the first time in more than 30 years. That includes redesigning its customer space and waiting areas so most interactions take place indoors. The staff’s break room and public restrooms will also get a facelift.
LexTran general manager Fred Combs says it’s meant to create an easier experience for passengers.
“Currently, if you're on the platform, it's really hard to have a conversation with the customer service representative. It's really noisy. You're in the environment. And with these new renovations, that interaction will actually be done on the interior of that space,” Combs said.
Operations at the transit center will be relocated to LexTran’s High Street location starting April 7 until renovations finish. Pass sales will move to its Loudon Avenue headquarters.
