Lexington Resuming Weekly Yard Waste Collection

lexingtonky.gov

Starting Monday, weekly yard waste collection will resume in Lexington. The announcement came Wednesday from Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton.  Door to door collection was suspended March 23rd due to health concerns associated with COVID-19.

The mayor said sufficient Personal Protective Equipment and cleaning supplies have been secured.  Gorton noted residents did contact her office about yard waste pickup. “Yes, I’ve gotten a few calls about this.  And see the unfortunate thing was we had to stop our collection right at the time the weather was getting nice and people were starting to work in their yards.  So, the timing was not good, but now we’re back,” said Gorton.

Dion Henry, who is union president for waste management workers, expressed appreciation to the mayor and Director Tracey Thurman for taking necessary steps to protect employees.  Henry said no waste management worker has tested positive for COVID-19.
