Kentucky Teacher Union Backs Schools Reopening Plan

Kentucky’s statewide teachers union is backing the school re-opening plan unveiled this week by Governor Beshear and officials in the Department of Education.

Officials with the Kentucky Education Association say they fully support the reopening recommendations. KEA President Eddie Campbell said there are 680,000 public school students, 42,000 teachers, in more than 15 hundred schools across Kentucky.  He said each one has a network of family and friends they interact with every day.

Campbell added for the health and safety of that network it’s critical the recommendations are consistently implemented.  He agrees the focus needs to be on required masks, social distancing, health screenings, sanitation, and contact tracing.

The guidelines for school officials gives local districts the flexibility to open with in-person instruction or modified with online distance learning.?
