Kentucky Legislative Leaders Ask Staff To Help With Unemployment Claims

The leaders of the Kentucky House and Senate are calling upon staff in the Legislative Research Commission to step in and help with handling unemployment benefit related inquiries.  The state has seen a significant increase in applications due to loss of work during a period of coronavirus.

Kentucky Senate President Robert Stivers and House Speaker David Osborne have instructed Legislative Research Commission Director Jay Hartz to arrange for legislative staff members to help out in reducing the backlog of unemployment insurance filings.  The authorization will allow staff to start working with the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet to process information needed to file the claims.

House Speaker David Osborne says several weeks into the shutdown his office is still hearing from constituents about difficulties reaching a live operator.  He says LRC staff has a lot of institutional knowledge in helping these Kentuckians.

LRC Director Hartz says his agency is currently working with the Cabinet to set up training to allow his staff members to begin assisting with UI applications.?
