Governor Instructs Kentuckians To Stay Put

Governor Beshear has issued an executive order instructing Kentuckians not to travel out of state except for a few limited reasons.

During Monday night’s briefing, the governor announced this new restriction in the ongoing effort to stop the spread of coronavirus. “We have more cases in other states.  That doesn’t mean that they are doing a good or a bad job.  What it means is your likelihood of getting infected and potentially bringing back the coronavirus may be greater in other states than ours right now.  And really, you need to be at home.  You need to healthy at home anyway,” said Beshear.

The reasons given for allowable travel out of state include for work, caring for a loved one, for health care, or court required appearances.

Governor Beshear asked Kentuckians waiting on unemployment checks to be patient a little longer.  He admitted there have been some hang ups in getting checks to those affected by job losses.  “If you lost your job, probably because of an order I put in, and now you’re having a tough time getting benefits which I told you you would get, I can understand how you’d be frustrated and upset and probably with me and that’s ok.  I promise you we’re going to get it fixed.  I promise you we’re going to get your benefits.  Just stick with us,” explained Beshear.

The governor said the phone bank with workers fielding questions and filing claims has increased by 120.  He said it’s expected to increase by 50 to 100 more each day for the foreseeable future.

Beshear said there were two more coronavirus related deaths in Kentucky.  The governor also announced 42 new cases including two at a northern Kentucky nursing home.  Those involved a resident and a staff member.?
