EKU Men's Basketball Team Upsets League Leading Belmont

ekusports.com

The Ohio Valley Conference’s leader in men’s basketball ran into a buzz saw Thursday night in Richmond.   Eastern Kentucky University pulled a major upset, beating Belmont 81-67 before a vocal crowd in McBrayer Arena.

After trailing 15-10 early in the game, EKU started scoring baskets in bunches.  The Colonels shot 63% in the first half and led by 18 at the break.  The closest the Bruins could get to Eastern in the second half was 12 points.  With the victory, EKU snapped Belmont’s 21 game win streak.  The Nashville squad had won 30 straight against OVC schools.  Now Belmont is 24 and two. The Bruins played without their leading scorer Nick Musynski who was injured.

The Colonels improved to 20 and six and now have the program record for conference wins.  Eastern and Belmont could meet for a third time in the OVC tournament next week in Evansville.   EKU finishes the regular season Saturday at home against Tennessee State.
