EKU Leaving Ohio Valley Conference For The ASUN

ekusports.com

Come this July Eastern Kentucky University will start competing in the ASUN athletics conference.  The official announcement that the Colonels were leaving the Ohio Valley Conference came Friday.  Eastern was one of the founding members of the OVC in 1948.

EKU Athletics Director Matt Roan says he’s certainly open to continuing rivalry games with schools like Morehead and Murray.

“You know I’m committed and know that it’s the right thing for our student athletes and the right thing for their experience here that it’s not exclusive of one another that you could play your rivals and be in a different conference.  So we’re committed to making sure that we’re protecting those rivalries at the same time we’re forming new ones,” said Roan.

Roan said there will be revenue options.  He adds, overall, if not neutral, it could be positive when it comes to sports related dollars.

Eastern Kentucky University President David McFaddin said the move to the ASUN provides an opportunity to expand the school’s reach and share EKU’s story with a rapidly growing more geographically diverse audience.

In addition to EKU, Jacksonville State and the University of Central Arkansas are also making a move to the ASUN.
