Amazon to Invest $1.49 Billion in Northern Kentucky

Online retail giant Amazon will build an air cargo hub expected to employ more than 2,000 people at the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport.  As WEKU’s Cheri Lawson reports, the facility will support the company's growing fleet of Prime Air cargo planes.

Kentucky economic development officials say Amazon plans a nearly $1.5 billion investment that will create 2,700 full- and part-time jobs.

Boone County Judge Executive Gary Moore, says Amazon’s investment will be “transformational” for the region, including Kenton and Campbell counties.

The thousands of jobs that will be created and the capital investment will first drive construction jobs. But these workers coming and going will help support a lot of small businesses that are in our region”

The Kentucky Economic Development Authority has given preliminary approval to a tax-incentive package worth up to $40 million for Amazon over the next 10 years if it meets job and wage targets.

Northern Kentucky economic development official Dan Tobergte says Amazon's is the largest single investment ever by a company in northern Kentucky.
