Grimes Announces Special Election for State Representative

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s chief election official, has announced a special election will be held on Feb. 12 to fill the vacancy in the office of state representative, 52nd Representative District. The 52nd District is comprised of McCreary and Wayne counties and part of Pulaski County. The seat is open because Sara Beth Gregory, former representative for the 52nd District, was elected in December to the office of senator for the 16th Senatorial District. She resigned from the House last week vacating the remainder of her term.

The deadline for Republican and Democratic candidates nominated by their party, independent candidates and write-in candidates to file their certificates, petitions and declarations with the secretary of state is Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 4 p.m. EST.

Gregory now occupies the Senate seat formerly held by David Williams, who accepted a judgeship appointment by Gov. Steve Beshear.
