Former President Trump and his allies have made no secret of their plans, should he be returned to the White House, to move the country away from traditional American democracy and toward an authoritarian style of governing. What would that mean? We begin a series on the question with Jennifer Dresden of Protect Democracy, our first guest. This episode also looks into a report on property abandonment influenced by concerns about climate change, mental health issues linked to climate anxieties and research in eastern Kentucky that finds many people recognizing the connection between climate change and extreme weather events. And, Stu Johnson visits something once a fixture of the Kentucky rural landscape, now a rarity: a tobacco farm.

Tom Martin hosts Eastern Standard, a weekly radio magazine of interviews and stories about interesting people, places, and things happening in the Commonwealth.
