Former WKU Coach Heads To Florida

A former player and head coach at Western Kentucky University will soon be in charge of one of the most prestigious football programs in the country.

Willie Taggart is being introduced as the next head coach at Florida State University at a news conference Wednesday.

The 41-year-old Taggart just completed his first season as head coach at Oregon, where he went 7 and 5.

Taggart grew up in Palmetto, Florida, and was a four-year starting quarterback at WKU.

He went on to become WKU’s head coach from 2010 to 2012.

Taggart will be Florida State’s first African-American head football coach.

Kevin is the News Director at WKU Public Radio. He has been with the station since 1999, and was previously the Assistant News Director, and also served as local host of Morning Edition. He is a broadcast journalism graduate of WKU, and has won numerous awards for his reporting and feature production. Kevin grew up in Radcliff, Kentucky and currently lives in Glasgow.
