Lexington VA Healthcare System's June 8 event is designed to inform veterans about the recently expanded PACT Act and other services for which they may qualify.

Lexington’s Veterans Affairs Healthcare System is holding an outreach event Saturday, June 8th at the Sousley Campus to let veterans know they may be eligible for benefits due to the expanded PACT Act. The VA recently announced all veterans exposed to toxins and other hazards are eligible up to 8 years earlier. Anna Mills is the Kentucky PACT Act coordinator.

“All three branches of VA will be here on Saturday to assist veterans with any questions. They have enrollment eligibility, eligibility claims. It is what I've been calling a one-stop VA shop.”

Mills said many veteran who qualify for PACT Act benefits aren’t aware they qualify

“A lot of people who have previously tried to enroll in VA Healthcare, said, ‘Well, I'm not eligible, I'm not going to go back.’ They should find out if they're eligible. Now, under the PACT act, because of how things have changed.”

Saturday’s event begins at 1 p.m. and will feature a wide variety of VA Healthcare professionals and community partners. Mills said firefighters and police officers will bring their vehicles to entertain children, who may also like the drive-in showing of “The Super Mario Brothers Movie” that begins at 4:15.
